It’s the most wonderful time of the year—and the busiest! Amid the hustle and bustle of office parties, tree trimming, and family traditions most of us assume we’ll have little time to look for love. Besides, we’ve all heard it before—no one wants to start dating someone new during the holidays. But is that really true?

We asked some of our matchmakers for their insight and found that actually, the holiday season is a great time to look for love!

Here are their tips for how!

  1. Parties. Parties. Parties.
Holiday festivities and celebrations help us ring in the season in style—and as a bonus, they can also help us meet someone new! When looking for love, it’s always wise to take advantage of any and all invitations—no matter the event or occasion. A party provides plenty of opportunities for making a myriad of connections. And don’t be daunted by the prospect of going stag. Even if you’re certain you’ll be the only guest attending who’s single, go anyway! You might strike up conversation with a beautiful, intelligent women who, unfortunately for you, happens to be married. But that doesn’t mean the evening was a bust! Your new friend likely has several beautiful, intelligent girlfriends she’d be happy to introduce you to!
  2. Tidings of Cheer and a Great Time to Volunteer.
During the holidays, many charities look for volunteers to assist in service projects and fundraising. Joining a committee or chairing a drive not only provides an opportunity to support your favorite cause, it also ushers you into a community of like-minded individuals who share your passion. Research shows the strongest and happiest couples possess similar core values. So meeting someone through charity work ensures you share a concern for the underprivileged and heart for philanthropy—core values that will provide a solid foundation for a romantic relationship should one materialize.
  3. Give Yourself a Gift!
You’re making your list and checking it twice—but don’t forget to give yourself a gift this season! Psychological research finds that efforts toward self-care allow us to be better for others. So being good to yourself actually helps you spread holiday cheer! Consider treating yourself to a dating service or matchmaker (like It’s Just Lunch!). With professionals at the helm, you’ll free up time to get your shopping done and increase your chances of finding someone to cuddle up with under the mistletoe!

As you dash through December, keep your dating game strong! Consider the suggestions above and let the merry momentum of the season assist you in finding love!
